I started working on a blog site about a year ago, but didn’t do much with it. GoDaddy was the “path of least resistance”, but it was like buying a 1 speed bicycle with training wheels. As soon as I learned how to “ride” it was no longer a good choice.
In January, I started over again, this time with a shared-server WordPress host (Hostinger), a serious (paid-for) “Theme” (Astra), and some additional (also paid-for) plug-ins, especially “Elementor”. With all the add-ons, “free” WordPress has cost me several hundred dollars, but at least now I have a tool that I can generally get to do something close to what I want (which is a big upgrade from go-daddy’s site editor.)
It has taken a few dozen hours of playing with it to get this far, but I mostly understand it now. It’s complicated because some things are done at the WordPress level, while other things are at the Theme level (done with Astra), and yet other things are controlled by the plug-ins (especially Elementor). For example, figuring out (and remembering) which of three different “typography” settings actually controls what I’m trying to adjust has been a challenge. But as you can see, I’m getting it.
